SOCIAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS

Our Social Awareness Campaigns are our way of reaching out to communities in need, extending a helping hand using our unique talents and abilities. Some of us are drawn to music, others to art, some to public speaking, and others are great at sports — whatever our superpowers may be, we join them together and make magic happen!

  1. 🧠 BRAINSTORMING. We always start with a session where youth participants brainstorm social issues which they have a passion or interest towards. We set on a common topic through conversation,
  2. 📔 RESEARCHING. Before building on the project idea, we educate ourselves on the topic. We host teach-ins, browse documentaries, visit communities, museums, art galleries, or local sites, and interview people with relevant knowledge or experiences, to have a complete grasp of the issue we want to advocate for! Youth help organize these events and are actively involved in each step of the way.
  3. 👓 SCHEMING. Most of our social awareness projects come with the goal of having a final showcase or a product that we can display to the community at large. With all the acquired knowledge, we start to think of what that product might look like for the topic we selected. Should we write a song? Create a choreography? What about a fundraiser? An art exhibition? Perhaps we can host a scavenger hunt where our participants can collect hints on the issue. The sky is the limit.
  4. 💗 ENGAGING. Our final plan always includes the talents of youth in the room. We make sure their abilities are highlighted or that they have opportunities to develop some new skills. There is ample opportunity to do this, as youth is fully in charge of the project, with only guidance/supervision from the organizers. Timelines are set, roles are divided, and weekly meetings are ran to make sure we are on the right track!
  5. 🗣️ IMPLEMENTING. The final step of our projects involve a community get-together. Parents always have the front seats, but our events are open to the entire community and anyone who is interested to attend. Students showcase the culmination of their work, we announce some call to actions, and the program usually ends with a documentary of our behind-the-scenes.
  6. 🎊 CELEBRATING. Teamwork should always be celebrated! The youth in our group are in for a treat, whether it’s a fun trip or a commemoratory meal. Although our projects are about raising awareness, we also want to make sure friendly bonds are kept and cherished. Students leave with a bunch of friends, a line of mentors, and a supportive community. <3

Past Campaigns

Jan 2023 – June 2023

North York / Social Awareness Campaigns

Exploring themes of youth homelessness, internet addiction, and residential schools, we curated an art exhibition to spark community dialogue. Our artwork included miniature buildings, clay artifacts, illuminated booths from recycled materials. By collaborating with local organizations and sharing the stories of vulnerable populations, students not only raised awareness but also inspired action towards addressing systemic issues affecting marginalized communities.

Sep 2022 – Jan 2023

Toronto / Social Awareness Campaigns

Through songwriting and filmmaking, we raised awareness about climate change. By engaging in tree planting and filming a music video in our neighborhood, students developed a deeper understanding of environmental issues and their role as advocates for sustainability. The students performed the song in Nathan Phillips Square in the Youth Climate Corps Movement’s Action Day in November 2023.

Jan 2021 – June 2022

North York / Social Awareness Campaigns

Students picked social issues of personal interest, received public speaking training and built personal narratives in their native tongues, producing 10 short films. Each student picked a stage, concept and props for their speech. We borrowed equipment from the community, and edited all of our videos, launching our Youtube Channel!

Sep 2020 – Dec 2020

Finch West / Social Awareness Campaigns

Collaborating with the Foster Care Parents Society of Ontario, we organized an all children-handmade sale to raise funds for foster children. Students not only learned about the foster care system in Canada but also developed empathy and solidarity by contributing to the well-being of foster children in our community.
